NAVARA PORRIDGE

  • UNF Navara Rice 50gms
  • Water 500ml
  • Milk 1 glass
  • Cooking time – 25-30 minutes
  • Serving – One helping for two persons

Instructions
Boil water, wash Navara rice and place into the boiling water. Cook in slow flame. When the rice is soft, add milk and boil for another two minutes. Add cashew nuts and raisins for rich taste. Sugar candy makes the porridge tastier.

NAVARA NEI PAYASAM

  • UNF Navara Rice
  • Jaggery 500 gm
  • Ghee 100 gm
  • Cardamom Powder 1 tsp
  • Coconut flakes 100 gm
  • Water 1 liter
  • Basil 1 leaf washed (optional)

(Note: Jaggery is a kind of coarse, brown colored sugar or sugar candy.)

Instructions
Coconut Milk Extraction Grate the coconuts. Mix the grated coconut with 100ml water and gently grind. Squeeze and extract the coconut milk. This is called the first extract. To the residue, add 400ml water and grind again. Squeeze and extract the coconut milk. This one is called the second extract.. Keep both milks separately for later use. Boil one litre of water, add rice to it and keep cooking till rice is soft and smooth. Add second milk extract and stir continuously. Dissolve jaggery in 100 ml water and strain. While the rice is being cooked, add liquid jaggery , ghee and cardamom powder. Add the first milk extract and boil for a minute.

NAVARA COCONUT MILK PAYASAM

  • UNF Navara Rice 250gm
  • Jaggery 750 gm
  • Ghee 1 table spoon
  • Cardamom Powder 1 tsp
  • Cardamom Powder 1 tsp
  • Coconut flakes 100 gm

Instructions
Coconut Milk Extraction: Scrape the coconuts. Mix the scraped coconut with 100ml water and gently grind. Squeeze and extract the coconut milk. This is called the first milk. Further to the squeezed residual coconut scrape, add 400ml water and grind again. Squeeze and extract the coconut milk. This one is called the second milk. Keep both milks separately for later use. Boil one liter of water, add rice to it and keep cooking till rice is soft and smooth. Add second coconut milk and stir continuously. Dissolve jaggery in 100 ml water and strain. While the rice is being cooked, add liquid jaggery , ghee and cardamom powder. Add the first milk and boil for a minute.

NAVARA BABY FOOD (FOR BABIES WHO HAVE COMPLETED 6 MONTHS OF AGE)

Prepare the Navara rice Powder: Soak 250 gm of UNF Navara rice in water for 30 minutes. Drain water completely and powder the rice. Dry it moisture free. This can be done by gently heating the powder for a few minutes or drying the powder in sunlight. Keep aside the rice powder for regular use.

  • Jaggery 1 tsp
  • Milk 100 ml

Instructions
Boil the ingredients in 100 ml of water. Once the mixture starts boiling, keep the flame on low and continue heating till the mixture becomes semi-solid.
Cool the baby food before feeding the baby.
Note: The method mentioned above is one of the traditional methods used in Kerala to prepare baby food. Parental discretion is suggested.
